Meta ads bulk upload template: where it is and its limits

Last reviewed November 4, 2026

Quick answerMeta Ads Manager offers a template you download, fill with campaign, ad set and ad information in Excel and import, with a file limit of about 2 MB. Images can be imported in bulk too.

Meta ads bulk upload template: where to download it

Download the Meta ads bulk upload template in Ads Manager on a computer, because the import is desktop only. Select the download icon at the top of the Ads, Ad sets or Campaigns tab, then choose the Excel template. You can also export your existing ads as a spreadsheet and start from that file.

The template route is free; Apogee, a bulk ad launcher for Meta, TikTok and Snapchat, is the paid alternative covered at the end of this page.

Meta's example for the feature is testing many images with one ad copy, because publishing 100 ads that each carry their own media file by hand takes a long time.

What goes in the spreadsheet

The file holds campaign, ad set and ad information. Meta says the template includes fewer columns than an export of ads you already created. Some advertising features may be unsupported in export and import.

  1. Download the template, or export existing ads.
  2. Fill in the campaign, ad set and ad details in Excel.
  3. Save the file, under about 2 MB.
  4. In Ads Manager, open More under the tabs, choose Import ads in bulk, then upload the file or paste its text.
  5. Read the summary. Blocking errors can be viewed in Excel and fixed before you import again.

Meta notes that you must upload the edited file for changes to apply to your account. Edits made to an exported file work the same way: nothing changes in the account until the file is imported back.

The 2 MB file limit and large batches

The limit is about 2 MB per file, so a large batch may need several files. For scale, TikTok's own import takes files of at most 2 MB and recommends 500 rows. Meta says the import suits advertisers who manage many objects and run a large number of ads and prefer editing in Excel.

Media for the import

Ads Manager also offers bulk image import. Apogee's guide takes a stricter view, saying the spreadsheet import needs the media already in the ad account. That is Apogee's statement, not Meta's.

For a few ads a month, the template is the first thing to try before paying for any launcher. Move on only when file prep, not the import itself, becomes the slow step.

When a launcher replaces the template

The template stops being the easiest route when creatives arrive by the dozen, across many ad accounts, with names that carry concept and format. Apogee skips the template: from Starter at $69 per seat a month before tax (billed monthly, as read on November 4, 2026), it builds Meta ads from a folder of creative files and reads concept, iteration and format from their names. Its Meta bulk upload takes 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 and 16:9 files and not carousels.

To compare both routes on one batch, Apogee offers 7 days of any plan for $1. See Meta Ads Manager alternatives, Apogee pricing and how to bulk upload ads to Facebook.
