Meta ads naming convention for creative files
Name each creative file [Concept]_[Iteration]_[Format], for example UGC-Testimonial_V3_9x16.mp4. A concept is one creative idea, the iteration is a numbered variant of it, and the format is its shape, such as 9x16 or 4x5. This is the template that Apogee, the bulk ad launcher for Meta, TikTok and Snapchat, publishes in its naming guide. Apogee defines a creative as a concept, an iteration and a media type, so the file name carries those three and nothing else.
- List your concepts, such as testimonial, demo or offer, and fix one spelling for each.
- Number each variant of a concept as an iteration, such as V1, V2, V3.
- Add the format keyword, such as 9x16 or 4x5.
- Join the parts with underscores, and join words inside a part with hyphens.
- Rename the files before upload, not after.

Underscores separate the variables, hyphens join words inside one variable, and only ASCII characters are used. Apogee's detector recognizes a date and excludes it, so 03/03/26 is never read as concept 26.
The format keyword in the file name decides first. When the name is silent, Apogee reads the media's actual dimensions.
Campaign and ad set names
Each level's name carries what that level decides. A campaign name holds the objective, market and period. An ad set name holds who and where. An ad name holds the concept, iteration, format and hook.
- An audience in the campaign name usually means one campaign per audience.
- A client prefix goes on the campaign name only.
- For an account that has drifted, apply the convention from a fixed cutover date instead of renaming history.
The same three levels and the same convention apply on TikTok Ads and Snapchat Ads, per Apogee's guide.
One spelling per concept in reports
The same concept spelled three different ways counts as three concepts in every aggregate. With a few ads a month, a written list of concept names keeps one spelling; across many accounts and hundreds of names, a tool that reads names becomes worth considering.
Applying the pattern to a whole batch
Apogee's naming detection, on every plan from Starter at $69 per seat a month before tax (billed monthly, as read on November 4, 2026), reads concept, iteration and format from your file names. Once 80% or more of the names match a saved convention, Apogee applies it for you, and the naming step stays locked until every name matches.
Detection recognizes a regular pattern and does not invent one, so names that follow no rule have to be fixed by hand first. You can run your own file names through the detector during Apogee's 7-day trial, which costs $1. Read the Apogee review, the guide to how to bulk upload ads to Facebook and what Apogee is.
